SUMMARY:April 24 - 25\, 2023: London\, United Kingdom. Effective Memorisation Strategies for Pianists (through reflection\, score's silent reading\, and motor imagery)
DESCRIPTION:Effective Memorisation Strategies for Pianists\n\nWorkshop\nStudy pathway\n\nThe present workshop on effective memorisation strategies based on mental practice illustrates techniques by which someone with the intent of practising creates a mental representation of a preconceived idea or action to enhance performance. Through increased focus and concentration\, pianists will learn how to study portions of a score in their minds without spending considerable time at the piano. \nAmong the techniques illustrated in this workshop are: \n\nMotor imagery (visualising the feeling of moving the fingers).\nOrganising groupings found in the text (also through formal\, melodic\, and rhythmic analysis).\nSinging and feeling intervallic relationships.\nScene memory (rapid eye movements to identify the next position on the key).\nSwitches (slight changes of patterns often resulting in memory slips).\n\nThese tools are helpful\, and while they cannot replace the actual practising at the keyboard\, they are invaluable mental rehearsal devices. \n\n\nRoyal College of Music\, Entrance.\nRoyal College (building\, full image)\n  \nLatest events: \n—July 2022 to August 20231. SUMMARY:July 15 - July 22\, 2023: Cheltenham\, Gloucestershire\, England\, United Kingdom. The Thinking Pianist Festival.
DESCRIPTION:The Cheltenham Ladies’ College.\nCheltenham Ladies’ College\, often called CLC\, is a renowned independent girls’ school with a rich history dating back to its founding in 1853. The college was established by Dorothea Beale\, an influential figure in women’s education in the 19th century. Beale aimed to provide girls with education on par with the standards of the best boys’ schools of the time. \nThe college began with 82 pupils and was situated in a single house on Bayshill Road\, Cheltenham. However\, it quickly gained a reputation for its high academic standards and innovative approach to education. Under Beale’s leadership\, the college introduced a broad curriculum that included languages\, sciences\, mathematics\, history\, literature\, and more. \nThroughout its history\, Cheltenham Ladies’ College has remained committed to providing a well-rounded education\, emphasizing intellectual development\, character formation\, and personal growth. The college has continuously adapted to societal changes and educational advancements while upholding its core values. \n \nOver the years\, the college has expanded its campus\, adding new buildings and facilities to accommodate the growing number of students. Today\, Cheltenham Ladies’ College is known for its beautiful Victorian architecture\, picturesque grounds\, and state-of-the-art facilities. \nThe college has educated many notable alumnae who have excelled in various fields\, including literature\, politics\, science\, arts\, and business. Cheltenham Ladies’ College maintains its reputation as a leading institution for girls’ education in the United Kingdom and attracts students worldwide. \n \nCore course activities will include; \n\nLessons\, masterclasses\, and workshops with distinguished Faculty\, joined by visiting specialists who will deliver other classes and concerts.\nOpportunities to rehearse and perform ensembles\, i.e.\, duet\, two pianos (3+ hands!)\nCourse concerts with the opportunity to perform with like-minded fellow pianists!\nThe “Teaching is Learning” strand of seminars and workshops offers insight into the multiple synergies of these two activities:  trying to teach any skill is a guaranteed improvement method!\nFundamentals of Piano Pedagogy offers an optional\, parallel mini-course on the basics of teaching. SUMMARY:January 17-23\, 2024: Namhae\, South Korea. Namhae International Piano Academy & Festival (Masterclasses and Individual Lessons)
DESCRIPTION:2024 Namhae International Piano Academy & Festival\n  \nGuide to Namhae \nPhotos \nNamhae\, Korea’s fifth largest island\, is famous for its slower pace of life\, beautiful sea\, and stunning nature. The drive around the island is arguably one of the most scenic routes in Korea. Rugged ocean view\, dense forests\, a tiny fishing village untouched by tourism\, and paddy fields. The entire island is a real gem. \nNamhae is surrounded by 79 smaller islands\, making the surrounding Ocean’s views unique. In addition\, the area sits right in the heart of the Hallyeohaesang Marine National Park\, which stretches from Geojedo Island in South Gyeongsang Province (Gyeongsangnam-do)\, to Yeosu in South Jeolla Province (Jeollanam-do). \nFor most people\, Namhae is associated with the sea and crystal clear ocean. However\, Namhae used to be called Hwajeon\, which means fields of flowers\, as with the arrival of spring\, all mountains are covered with beautiful and colorful flowers. \nNamhae also celebrates many events\, such as the Bomulseom Mijo Anchovy Festival\, the Oktoberfest in the German Village\, and the Admiral Yi Sun-sin Festival. \n

SUMMARY:February 21\, 2024 (Time TBA): Springfield\, Missouri\, USA. Effective Memorization Strategies for Pianists — Mental Practice Workshop at Missouri State University
DESCRIPTION:Effective Memorization Strategies for Pianists — Mental Practice Workshop by Enrico Elisi  \n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Study pathway:\n\nThe present workshop on effective memorization strategies based on mental practice illustrates techniques by which someone intending to practice creates a mental representation of a preconceived idea or action to enhance performance. Through increased focus and concentration\, pianists will learn how to study portions of a score in their minds without spending considerable time at the piano. \nAmong the techniques illustrated in this workshop are: \n\nMotor imagery (visualizing the feeling of moving the fingers).\nOrganizing groupings found in the text (also through formal\, melodic\, and rhythmic analysis).\nSinging and feeling intervallic relationships.\nScene memory (rapid eye movements to identify the next position on the key).\nSwitches (slight changes of patterns often resulting in memory slips).\n\nThese tools are helpful\, and while they cannot replace the actual practicing at the keyboard\, they are invaluable mental rehearsal devices.

SUMMARY:April 4\, 2024: Jakarta\, Indonesia. Elisi-Pan Piano Duo Residency. Effective Memorization Strategies for Pianists (Mental Practice Workshop) at Pelita Harapan University
DESCRIPTION:Effective Memorization Strategies for Pianists — Mental Practice Workshop by Enrico Elisi \n\n\n\nThe present workshop on effective memorization strategies based on mental practice illustrates techniques by which someone intending to practice creates a mental representation of a preconceived idea or action to enhance performance. Through increased focus and concentration\, pianists will learn how to study portions of a score in their minds without spending considerable time at the piano. \nAmong the techniques illustrated in this workshop are: \n\nMotor imagery (visualizing the feeling of moving the fingers).\nOrganizing groupings found in the text (also through formal\, melodic\, and rhythmic analysis).\nSinging and feeling intervallic relationships.\nScene memory (rapid eye movements to identify the next position on the key).\nSwitches (slight changes of patterns often resulting in memory slips).\n\nThese tools are helpful\, and while they cannot replace actual keyboard practice\, they are invaluable mental rehearsal devices.
