An intensive program dedicated to exploring piano sonatas by Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert, the Leon Fleisher Academy is a new winter project for young pianists.
The aforementioned repertoire holds an essential place in the piano repertoire and it represents the cornerstone of all musicians’ growth and development.
Each student will perform a complete sonata over two lessons with our faculty artists. Following the tradition of Arthur Schnabel and Leon Fleisher, every lesson will be audited by all participants, followed by a discussion after each session.
Daily sessions with expert physical therapist Leah Fleisher are geared explicitly towards physical awareness of playing the instrument and injury prevention techniques for pianists.

“I believe that a performer’s highest goal is to discover what the music is about. You find that in the score. All the information you need is right there. The printed music is full of clues. Why did the composer use an eighth note here and a sixteenth note there?…What is the point of this musical statement, and why is he making it? Why did he write this line the way he did? Every piece is a unique combination of tones. And any feelings that emerge when you play it is based primarily on that.”
